Statement

Nothing’s more thrilling than imagining a concept, picking up a blank canvas, applying some materials, and then looking back after a few hours and seeing something that had never existed. Every colorless canvas holds unlimited possibilities.

I hope to make people experience ordinary things in an extraordinary way. I paint small things big, look at subjects from a new angle, and combine multiple small canvases into an overall image.

What I enjoy most about this is the interrelationship among different shapes. These shapes may not look like much by themselves, but it’s both intellectual and aesthetic fun when they interlock to produce representation. And I especially enjoy using colors that aren’t individually accurate but that look real together.

When I am successful with all of this, I’m hoping that viewers will see and feel more about the subject than they would if they were looking at a photo, or perhaps even more than if they were at the scene.
